How to use your pen

Last updated: 27 August 2026

Every Optigenix pen arrives freeze-dried. The peptide is a dry powder, sealed, and stays that way until you reconstitute it with the bacteriostatic water pen supplied in the same kit.

That takes about two minutes and it only has to be done once per pen. This page covers every step, with a video, and the printed guide is in the box.

In the kit

What’s in your kit

  • One freeze-dried peptide pen
  • One bacteriostatic water pen
  • Needles
  • Printed step-by-step guide

Check everything is sealed and undamaged before you start.

The ten steps

Reconstitution, step by step

  1. Check your kit

Everything above should be present and sealed.

  2. Remove the caps

Take the cap off the bacteriostatic water pen, then the peptide pen. Keep both caps for storage afterwards.

You should see dry powder inside the peptide pen. That is the freeze-dried peptide.

  3. Attach a needle to the water pen

Screw a fresh needle onto the bacteriostatic water pen and remove the outer cover. The peptide pen does not get a needle at this stage.

Use a new needle each time. Never reuse one.

  4. Fully unwind the peptide pen

Unwind the dial all the way out.

Never press the pen down — always unwind it. Pressing will expel the contents. It must stay unwound until the transfer is finished.

  5. Connect the two pens

Insert the water pen needle into the top of the peptide pen. Hold both firmly and keep them straight, to avoid bending the needle or creating bubbles.

  6. Transfer the water

Rotate the dial fully, then press to dispense. Repeat until the water pen is empty.

Go slowly and steadily. If it feels stiff, stop and check the peptide pen is fully unwound.

  7. Remove and dispose

Withdraw the water pen and dispose of it and the used needle safely in a sharps bin. Untwist the peptide pen back to zero — never press it down.

  8. Swirl gently to mix

Roll the pen slowly between your palms until the powder has fully dissolved, usually under a minute.

Never shake. Shaking damages peptides and creates foam.

  9. Attach a needle and prime

Screw a fresh needle onto the peptide pen. Hold it upright with the needle pointing up. Dial 2 clicks and press, and repeat until a droplet appears at the tip.

Priming clears the air left in the cartridge. The small amount expelled is normal — it is about 1% of the pen. Without it, air compresses ahead of the liquid and the first dose comes up short.

  10. Ready

Dial your amount, and store the pen in the fridge between 2–8°C.

Fit a fresh needle for each use, and prime with 1 click each time you do. Two clicks on first use, one click for every new needle after that.

Your dial

Your dial

Every pen we supply is a U60 — each click delivers 0.01ml. That is the same on every pen.

How many milligrams that represents depends on the pen, because each holds a different amount:

Pen1 click5 clicks
Retatrutide 40mg (2ml)0.2 mg1 mg
GHK-Cu 100mg0.5 mg2.5 mg
BPC-157 / TB-500 20mg0.1 mg0.5 mg
CJC-1295 / Ipamorelin 10mg0.05 mg0.25 mg

The conversion for your pen is printed on the pen label and on the card in the box. Always check it before first use — never assume a pen matches one you have used before.

Storage

Storing your pen

Before reconstitution: cool, dark and dry.

After reconstitution: refrigerate at 2–8°C.

Never freeze a pen you have already mixed. Keep it out of direct light.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is the pen freeze-dried rather than pre-filled?

Peptides degrade once they are in solution — hydrolysis, oxidation and aggregation all begin immediately. A pre-filled pen has been in solution since the factory, through freight, customs and storage. Freeze-dried means the peptide stays dry and stable until you reconstitute it yourself. Read the full explanation.

How long does it last once reconstituted?

Published guidance across the research supply industry puts a reconstituted peptide in bacteriostatic water at around 28 days refrigerated. Bacteriostatic water prevents microbial growth but does not stop chemical degradation.

Why do I need to prime the pen?

There is a small amount of air in the cartridge and in each new needle. Air compresses and liquid does not, so without priming the plunger squeezes the air first and the dose comes up short. Priming clears it.

Do I have to prime every time?

Two clicks on first use, which clears the cartridge. One click each time you fit a new needle after that, which clears the needle itself.

Can I shake the pen to dissolve it faster?

No. Shaking damages peptides and creates foam. Roll it slowly between your palms.

What if the powder will not dissolve?

Keep rolling gently — it usually takes under a minute. If it still will not dissolve, stop and contact us at info@optigenixhealth.com.

Can I reuse a needle?

No. Use a fresh needle every time and dispose of used ones in a sharps bin.

Where do I find the Certificate of Analysis for my batch?

Every batch is independently tested and published in our COA Library, searchable by batch number.
