Storage

How to store a reconstituted peptide

Once you reconstitute a peptide pen, the storage conditions from that point onward determine how much of the peptide you actually get to use.

This page covers temperature, light, and time – the three things you can control.

Temperature

Refrigerated, not frozen

Placeholder: Cover the 2-8C storage range. Explain why freezing a reconstituted pen risks precipitation and aggregation. Note effect of temperature cycling on degradation rate. Louie: replace this block with your prose.

Light

Dark storage

Placeholder: Cover photodegradation risk for tryptophan-containing peptides. Note that the pen cartridge itself provides some light protection but is not opaque. Louie: replace this block with your prose.

Time

How long a reconstituted pen lasts

Placeholder: Cover the ~28-day rule of thumb for peptides in bacteriostatic water refrigerated. Note that bacteriostatic water inhibits microbial growth but does not slow chemical degradation. Louie: replace this block with your prose.

Practical

Practical do and do not

Do:

  • Store the pen in the door shelf of the fridge or the coldest interior area
  • Keep it out of direct light
  • Use it within four weeks of reconstitution

Do not:

  • Freeze a reconstituted pen
  • Shake it to mix (see reconstitution guide)
  • Leave it at room temperature overnight
