Lyophilisation, and why every Optigenix pen starts freeze-dried

Lyophilisation – freeze-drying – is the manufacturing step that turns a liquid peptide preparation into the dry powder inside every Optigenix pen. It is not a shortcut. It is the reason a peptide can sit in a sealed cartridge for years and still work when you reconstitute it.

The trade-off

What the user has to do differently

Freeze-dried peptide requires reconstitution – the powder has to be dissolved in bacteriostatic water before use. This is a small extra step versus a pre-filled pen. In return, you get:

  • A peptide that survived shipping in the same condition it left the factory
  • Multi-year shelf-life versus weeks-in-solution
  • No lot-to-lot variability from degradation in transit
